Live music is our strongest suit, and the first honest thing to know is what we do not book: solo singers. Without their own equipment it becomes a busker situation, and that is not the standard we put our name to. A solo instrumentalist is a different matter — usually a pianist, the one instrument that genuinely carries a room alone. A lone saxophonist cannot physically blow for more than about twenty minutes and needs a backing track underneath, so we book that as a short intro moment, a fun flourish to open an event, not as the music for the night. From there our starting point is a duo — good for background music — and our most-booked act of all is the acoustic trio, right for roughly 30 to 80 guests. “Acoustic” still travels with amplification, because it is always better to have it; it is the minimum kit our musicians carry, and it is probably the best value there is in amplifying an event. Above 80 guests, heading past 100, you want the PA trio with a professional sound system.

The most versatile combination we book is keyboard plus saxophone — between them they cover an enormous range of styles, which is exactly why they are the most requested.

One thing we ask every client: tell us the music direction you want. Here is why it matters. Ask any musician if they can play jazz and the answer is yes; ask about pop, yes again — a professional knows he could learn ten songs. He only says no to something completely foreign, like a guitarist asked for flamenco. But there are players who have given their lives to jazz guitar, and others to pop, and they are not interchangeable. Knowing the difference is where an agency earns its keep. We will not take a job we are not confident we can deliver — and when a musician plays what he is truly great at, everyone in the room can hear it.
