“A model” is not one booking — it is several, and knowing which one you need is most of the job. A standing model brings presence. A promo model splits further: just being there, taking photos with guests, engaging the public, or actively selling — and not every model does every one of those. If the job involves selling, expect the rate to reflect it. Hostesses are their own category again: statuesque, long black dress, guiding VIPs to the right place at the right moment — a style of booking far more common in Macau’s casino ballrooms than in Hong Kong. And for outdoor promotion work you need staff who are genuinely fit and outdoorsy; indoor and outdoor are different castings.

Most clients ask for either a Western or a Chinese look. Western models are the scarcer resource here in Asia, so tell us early. But the factor that decides a model booking more than any other is the costume: models want to know what they will be wearing before they accept the job, revealing outfits carry a premium and need the right person, and if you need something made, we have had costumes customised to a client’s specification for a top-tier company — expensive, assessed case by case, references available.

Bookings are hourly, and one industry reality worth knowing: briefing time is billable now. The current generation of models expects every allocated minute to be compensated, and since they are the workforce, that is the market.
