Booking an MC comes down to language first, and everything else second.

In Hong Kong that usually means English, Cantonese and Mandarin in some combination. Being proficient in all three to a high level is difficult on its own. Being proficient in all three and able to hold a room from a stage in front of several hundred people is a genuinely rare combination, and it is priced accordingly. English on its own is scarce enough; the full three, done properly, comes down to a small number of people in the city. That is not a markup we invent — it is what those people are worth.

After language, the question is what you want the evening to feel like. If you want it fun, you are looking for comedic ability and timing, which is a performing skill rather than a speaking one. If you want it elegant, clients often want someone with a public profile in the relevant industry, because recognition does part of the work for them.

Track record is the third factor, and it matters more than people expect. An MC who has handled clients of a similar calibre to yours is the safer booking, because they already know what that room expects.

How it runs. Minimum hire is four hours. The script normally comes from your side; the MC condenses it onto cards to work from on the night. If you want the MC to contribute to the script, or write it, that can be arranged at an additional cost. There is a face-to-face before the event, usually by video call — and that happens after the confirmation is signed by both sides, so that everyone is secure before preparation starts.
